Loch Damph Lodges
The holiday lodges are tucked in to a peaceful glen in the heart of the Scottish
North West Highlands. The Red Burn runs down from the hills, through a small
Fir wood right outside and on into Loch Damph 100 yards away. This tranquil spot
provides an ideal watering hole for the deer which can be seen at dawn
and dusk all year round. Aptly named, Kinloch Damph translates to Head of the Loch
of the Deer.
There cannot be a more perfect location to have a holiday, located 1 mile
down a private road you can get away from it all. Children can have a true
Swallows and Amazons experience and dogs are in heaven. Far from the madding
crowd, they are perfectly set up to allow several families or large groups to enjoy
a holiday together, allowing each their own space.
For more information on available dates and prices for stalking and fishing, please
contact us directly or send us your enquiry.
Things to See & Do
Local Activities
Kinloch Damph New Lodge lies in the heart of the magnificent scenery stretching
from Plockton (location of TV's Hamish MacBeth), the idyllic Applecross beaches
and on up to Torridon, world famous for it's climbing. All are no more than 45 minutes
drive. Another good day trip is to visit the Isle of Skye. Although, if you love
walking you won't need to touch your car for a week and fishing on the estate can
be organised through Couldoran. Close by there are restaurants in Shieldaig, Kishorn
and Achintraid, serving great local seafood. Lochcarron boasts one of Scotland's
oldest 9 hole golf courses set beside the sea. The well known Lochcarron Weavers,
where tartan is still woven on the old looms is a popular spot and there is also
the local pottery and a stained glass workshop. In the summer there are a series
of art classes, which are organised by the estate.

The bird and wildlife of the area is abundant - from golden eagles to woodcock,
red deer to otters and seals - there is much to be seen.
Guided Walks
The Estate Stalker, a highly experienced hill manager and graduate of Wick &
Thurso, runs the habitat programme of Lochcarron Estate. He is occasionally free
to lead half and full day tours of the surrounding hills.
Guests may have the opportunity to see deer, golden eagle, rare vegetation, our
woodland regeneration projects and the dramatic glacial features of these hills.
Fishing
A string of lochs runs through the heart of Lochcarron Estate. These offer some
of Scotland's finest trout fishing, although there are also salmon. On the smaller
lochs, fishing from a boat or from the shore will provide the fisher with "breakfast"
trout, while on the two larger lochs you may be fighting for a fish of 6lbs or more.
The Estate brown trout record was caught in 1998 and weighed 15lbs 4oz.
In the hills are lochs seldom fished by Man and though most hold small trout there
are others with monsters in their depths.
Red Deer Stalking
Lochcarron Estate places great importance in the management of its natural resources.
The Estate works to maintain the balance of wildlife, livestock and vegetation over
its land and is helped in this role by partnerships with wildlife, conservation,
heritage and sporting associations.
Lochcarron Estate is a Culling not a Trophy estate and those who come to stalk in
these remote and wild hills know that they will be helping the long term fitness
and survival of the Red Deer herds. There are no fences to contain these herds and
they are free to follow their natural migratory routes. The Estate works in co-operation
with neighbours to carry out a deer census every two years; it is the findings of
the census that determines the hill management policy and Cull. Stalking takes place
between September and February and we are pleased where possible to lead stalking
parties for photography.
This responsible management of deer herds is typical of most highland estates. Their
consequent health and numbers are the attraction for wildlife enthusiasts who come
to the Highlands to witness Red Deer as they can seldom be seen elsewhere.
Lochcarron is a working Estate and the owners are delighted to show their guests
around. At Couldoran House every comfort is provided for and all foods are prepared
to a high standard. Venison, beef, lamb and trout come from the Estate and shellfish
from the nearby fishing village of Shieldaig or from the Estate's own oyster farm.
At the end of each day you will be physically tired, perhaps after spending many
hours climbing in driving rain, but you will return to the steaming baths, sauna
and warm home fires of Couldoran. There are few experiences to compare with stalking
for revealing the beauty of these mountains and their deer; stalkers will leave
at the end of their week with rich memories of time spent well and in good company.
